After switching domestic allegiance from Mumbai to Maharashtra, Prithvi Shaw is making waves in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament with a stunning century and a fifty. Maharashtra’s chief selector Akshay Darekar praises Shaw’s focus, fitness, and determination.

Shaw’s Revival Journey

Once hailed as the next Sachin Tendulkar, Prithvi Shaw faced a tough 2024. He went unsold in the IPL auction and struggled in Mumbai's domestic teams. The switch to Maharashtra ahead of the 2025-26 season seems to have rejuvenated him.

In the Buchi Babu Tournament, Shaw has already impressed: scoring 111 against Chhattisgarh and 66 against TNCA President XI, showcasing his world-class batting talent.

Selector’s Statement

Akshay Darekar said: “Prithvi is on the right track. There was never an issue with his batting. He is focused and keen to make a statement with his bat. He is completely committed to his fitness too and has been doing his training drills religiously.”

Darekar highlighted Shaw’s goal of helping Maharashtra reach the Ranji Trophy knockout stage, emphasizing his aggressive approach and hunger to score big.

Past Challenges

Despite a century on Test debut against West Indies in 2018, Shaw has only played five Tests, six ODIs, and one T20I for India. His last national appearance was in July 2021.

Shreyas Iyer, former Mumbai captain, had previously critiqued Shaw’s discipline, saying: “He needs to get his work ethics right. If he does that, sky’s the limit for him.”

Shaw’s IPL journey has also been turbulent, retained by Delhi Capitals for ₹7.5 crore previously, he went unsold in the 2025 mega auction at a base price of ₹75 lakh.
