Ghanaian MPs Wear Indian Attire to Honour PM Modi’s Parliament Address

During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s historic address to the Parliament of Ghana, two Ghanaian Members of Parliament paid a heartfelt tribute by wearing traditional Indian attire. One MP wore a pagdi (headgear) and a Bandhgala (closed-neck suit), while a female MP proudly stood to display her Indian dress, prompting applause from the entire House — including PM Modi himself.

As Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin delivered his closing remarks, he acknowledged the MPs’ cultural gesture with admiration.

"I recognise that the honourable member is itching to visit India... I will not hold my pen from approving your visit. I thank the members for showing their love for India, its people and their culture."

In his speech, PM Modi hailed Ghana as a land of democracy, dignity, and resilience, and extended the goodwill of 1.4 billion Indians.

“Ghana is not only the land of gold for what lies beneath its soil, but also for the strength and warmth in its people's hearts.”

Modi reaffirmed India’s support for Africa’s development journey through Agenda 2063, saying:

“Africa’s goals are our priorities. Our partnership is demand-driven and focused on empowering local capacities.”
